Why choose the Java Carpenter Bench 35cm?

The Carpenter benches used to stand in Indonesian bars, street food stalls and small neighborhood shops. The seat is original and the wood from the old legs gets a second life in the new legs. This means that each piece has its own story. Color differences, slight imperfections and old signs of use are part of this product and make no two benches exactly alike. The material is recycled teak wood from Indonesia, a strong hardwood with a distinct grain that has been used for furniture and shipbuilding for centuries. Indonesian teak grows on plantations and not in natural tropical forests. Since 2016, the Indonesian government has also been tracing the wood back to its source under the FLEGT agreement with the EU.

With dimensions of L35cm x W16cm x H30cm, this is the smallest size in the series. It is precisely this narrow format that makes it versatile: under a window, next to a low armchair, at the foot of the bed or against an empty wall with a vase on top. You can move it with one hand when you temporarily need an extra seat or a low table somewhere. Wipe the bench with a dry or slightly damp cloth and use coasters for glasses, mugs or plant pots to keep the wood looking beautiful.
