Java Carpenter bench 40 cm

These benches were used in Indonesia in places such as bars, roadside eateries and shops. The seats are original. The old legs have been reused to create the new ones. As a result, all the benches are unique and may vary slightly in size.

Are you looking for a piece of furniture with a real story? Meet the Carpenter bench. These characterful benches originated in the vibrant streets of Indonesia, where they served for years in local bars, cosy eateries and small neighbourhood shops. The seats are still completely original and retain the atmosphere of their former lives. To give the benches a second life, the old legs have been expertly reused to create new bases. Whether you are looking for a compact stool or a generous bench, the Carpenter is available in three convenient sizes: 35x16x30 cm, 40x17x50 cm and 80x17x50 cm. Because each bench has its own history, no two are alike. You will always bring a unique item into your home, with slight variations in size and finish adding that extra touch of character you are looking for.

The Carpenter collection is made entirely from recycled teak, a material renowned for its exceptional strength and beautiful, distinctive grain. What makes this bench particularly special is the sustainable journey the wood has taken. Although teak originally comes from the natural forests of Southeast Asia, the Indonesian teak used for these benches comes from strictly managed plantations that have existed since the 16th century. Because teak does not grow wild in Indonesia, you do not need to worry about tropical rainforest deforestation. Furthermore, since 2016, the Indonesian government has strictly monitored the timber trade using an advanced tracking system (FLEGT agreement with the EU). This guarantees that every piece of wood has been legally and responsibly sourced. So you are not only choosing a beautiful piece of furniture, but also contributing to a socially and environmentally sustainable world.

To protect the natural beauty of the teak, the benches have been treated with a subtle water-based coating. This helps prevent unwanted water stains, but please remember that this bench is designed for indoor use. The wood does not like prolonged exposure to moisture, so if a glass of water accidentally spills on it, it is best to wipe it up immediately. What if a scratch or minor damage appears over time due to intensive use? Don't worry. That is part of the character of a well-loved piece of furniture. You can easily treat it yourself with a small amount of clear or very lightly coloured oil, bringing the wood back to life without losing its unique patina.

Imagine coming home after a long day and stepping into the hallway. There stands the Carpenter bench, right beneath the row of hooks where the coats hang. It is the perfect place to sit down and relax while you take off your shoes. But the bench does more than that; with a few beautiful linen cushions and a stack of coffee table books on top, that dull corner in the living room instantly becomes a cosy setting. You can also place it at the foot of your bed for a luxurious hotel feel, or pull it up to the dining table for extra seating when friends unexpectedly stay for dinner. The well-loved wood instantly brings warmth and a touch of far-flung travel to your interior.
